Have you ever wondered why the jeans you sew don’t fit like RTW? This step-by-step design and sew-along shows how to turn your fitted pants sloper into a jean master pattern. From the master pattern, we then do the pattern work for your designer jeans—waistband, yoke, pockets, leg width—before sewing with easy-to-follow steps and practical tips.

Introduction To Designer Jeans Masterclass

After months of planning, refining, and testing, this step-by-step design and sew-along was created to address one of the most common dressmaking frustrations—why handmade jeans so often fall short of the RTW look. The answer lies in the pattern, and this class focuses on the changes that truly matter.

What makes this class different from any other jeans course is that it guides you to create a jean master pattern. Using our basic fitted pants pattern as the foundation, the class shows how to develop a master pattern that can be used for any future jean project, giving consistent fit and opening up endless design possibilities.

Once the master pattern is ready, we move on to the pattern work for your designer jeans—waistband, yoke, pockets, leg style—and then sew them step-by-step, with practical tips for handling denim with confidence..

Jean Foundation - Pattern Work

Please note: If your body shape is more pear-shaped and the low/full hip is the fullest measurement, use the low hip guideline when designing the new crotch line. If the fullness is more over the tummy area, the high hip guideline works better.
